Our little dining room is now a gallery!
Considering that the room looked like this (below) not long ago, this new look has a completely different feel. (Not to mention those silly outlets are now hidden again!)
If you've been following along, you know that a few weeks ago I moved a wall of art from our living room into the dining room. It had been roughly the same look in the living room for several years, and though I still loved it, I was ready for a change. At the same time, I had been thinking about painting the dining room to give it a cozier feel. This was a win-win solution! Also, I was able to accomplish it using mostly pieces of art I already had on hand.
As I talked about here, after finishing round one, I kept thinking about entire-room galleries I'd seen lately and couldn't get this idea out of my head.
So, I gathered pieces from around the house and started piecing together the puzzle. I realized most of what I had was fairly detailed/busy in nature, and the mix needed some breathing room and variety. A stop at one of my favorite thrift stores was a success, where I found two more modern pieces - perfect!
And for this sliver next to the living room, I felt like it needed something a little more cohesive to keep the room from getting too crazy.
I tried some small pieces over the black door, but it felt too forced. I think this only works with higher ceilings (more space between the doorframe and the ceiling). I've definitely seen it work well and would love to try it in a different space!
I'm so glad I decided to give this a try - really happy with how it turned out!
