Okay, let's get caught up on some Christmas fun! As I mentioned in this morning's post, I lost some time last week to a nasty bug, but I'm starting to feel human again. I'm taking it slow, but trying to make up for lost time, and just so relieved to have some amount of energy. :) You know those sicknesses that make you realize how much you take your health for granted? I have renewed motivation for getting on a regular exercise plan and taking better care of myself! I know the holidays are coming and I'll definitely splurge on carbs and chocolate, but I'm determined to make some good decisions along the way as well! Also... I had big plans for the long weekend!! I really wanted to paint our bathroom, and to have a family Thanksgiving/tree-decorating party with my husband and sister on Saturday. Ah well, they will happen!! In the meantime, let's take a look at a lively Christmas brunch hosted by yours truly a few weeks ago...
In my Holiday Style Challenge post for the Home Depot (see it on their website here!), you saw a staged, untouched dining room. Here is my attempt at showing you how the space was used in real life! I've also tweaked a few things since the dining room was first shot - added an awesome Christmas cactus (also from The Home Depot), moved around some of the bulbs in various vessels, and removed the dining table place settings to accommodate a buffet. As you'll see, in our less-than-1.000-sqare-foot-house, the bodies quickly take over and decorations really become a backdrop! But, isn't that what it's really all about anyway? These warm hearts are welcome to crash my decorating any day!
So…I don't know I can honestly say that I "hosted" twenty friends when it was actually a potluck! I kept things really simple (as usual) and incorporated cute paper plates with some 'real' dishes. Ladies could help themselves to hot apple cider simmering on the stove, or to the coffee bar. We spread out food on the dining room table & buffet, as well as the kitchen island. Also, many of these friends feel really comfortable at our house and were huge helpers…I had it pretty easy!
The purpose of the gathering was to celebrate our church's awesome small groups for women, which met for seven weeks during September-October. These ladies were the groups' leaders, and this time was set aside to honor these amazing servant leaders. (If you're curious, we use The Home Experience curriculum, and I'm a huge fan! Happy to chat or answer any questions you might have about this powerful tool and ministry. I have seen it change lives and families and homes.)
I love these powerful, loving, giving, selfless, humble, joy-filled and on fire women of God! I mean, if you only knew the stories represented here, and the world-changing power that's going to explode from this group… get ready!! What a privilege to host them, and to do life with them!!
